The Lymore Park was home to a magnificent timber framed house from 1675 to 1931. It succumbed, however, to the ravages of rot and was demolished. It was located in the now wooded section near the beautifully situated Montgomery Town cricket ground, which has been in operation since 1847. Offa’s Dyke was built in the 780’s to generally prevent the Welsh infiltrating into England although the precise way in which it worked is shrouded in mystery.

Directions:

  1. Exit the car park, keeping the football field on your left. Take the small track down past a nature reserve area and through a kissing gate into a field.

  2. Walk along the avenue of young trees and through two gates to Lymore estate tarmac drive.

  3. Go right along the drive, past the cricket ground and over two cattle grids to proceed through a wood.

  4. Go over a third cattle grid at the end of the wood. (Offa’s Dyke and the National Trail are crossed here). Carry on, along a straight drive towards an isolated red brick farmhouse.

  5. Cross a fourth cattle grid and in approximately 100 metres look for a stile on your right, by a metal gate.

  6. Cross the stile and turn left. Follow a hedge on your left.

  7. At the end of the field, go along a short track for 50 metres and at a gateway into a field turn left to follow the field edge up a slight rise to a stile.

  8. Cross the stile, turn left and follow hedge on left to wood. Turn right and follow wood edge until the wood turns left.

  9. Turn right here, across field towards the left-hand house. A stile soon comes into view.

  10. Cross the stile and aim for a telegraph pole. You will see another stile to the right of the pole.

  11. Go over the stile and then slightly right to the next stile.

  12. Go over this stile and then cross a farm road to a lane straight ahead (not left).

  13. Proceed downhill for approximately 500 metres and just beyond a slight right-hand bend look for Offa’s Dyke Trail. There is a stile on the right next to a farm gate.

  14. Turn right over the stile and follow the path with the prominent Dyke on your right, behind the hedge.

  15. Follow the path over 4 stiles (to be replaced by gates).

  16. At the 5th stile (to be replaced by a gate), turn left onto the estate drive, you came along earlier.

  17. Go past the cricket ground and soon after the farm buildings, but before the lake, turn left through a gate and along the avenue of trees, back up to the car park.
