Llanwrtyd Wells is on the A483 between Llandovery and Builth Wells, both of which are on the Heart of Wales railway line. There are bus services connecting the town to Llandrindod Wells, Builth Wells, Rhayader, Aberystwyth and Carmarthen.

To say that Llanwrtyd Wells is eccentric is like referring to the Brecon Beacons as a collection of hillocks or Dan-yr-Ogof Cave as a bit of a hole in the ground.
For a start, with a population of 601 or thereabouts, it’s officially the smallest town in Britain. It could also be the one with the best sense of humour. Because this inventive former spa town has turned itself into the world capital of wacky sporting events.
