Rhayader: Riverside Walk
Distance: 1 miles
Duration: 30 minutes
Suitable for wheelchairs and prams.
The walk starts at Otter’s rock, a large rock in the River Wye.
To reach the start, cross the footbridge over the Wye at Waun Capel Parc. Turn right over the bridge and walk to Otter’s rock, then retrace your steps back along the River Wye and recross the bridge (Pic 1).
Turn right keeping the Wye on your right and continue along with the Wye until you reach a small grassy park and car park. Cross the car park to the tin barns and walk up the road to Bridge Street. Cross over Bridge Street and turn right into Water Lane, finger post for Riverside Walk. Walk down the hill bearing left and keeping to the lane, round the corner and turn right onto a gravelled path. Keeping the rugby ground (Pic 2) on your left follow the narrow path on the other side of the wire fence by the sign welcoming you to the Riverside walk.
Bear left, keeping the river on your right, following path to the picnic tables. Keep the picnic tables on your right, follow the track left and then right, with the rugby ground fence on your left. You will pass many picturesque spots for a picnic, and on your right, the Welsh Water plaque giving information about the river Wye.
At the end of the path is a beautiful spot to look out over the river (Pic 3). When you are ready to return turn left up the short hill onto the main road. Turn left, take care along the road and return to the town via South Street to the Town Clock.
