A ghostly figure on the River Ystwyth

October 31, 2018

While doing his final checks of the local footpath on the evening of the 30th of December, Hafod Estate Manager, David Newnham, spotted something quite unusual.

At around 6:15pm on bank of the River Ystwyth, a peculiar figure caught his eye — but seconds after he managed to capture it on camera, it disappeared into the river.

“I saw a blurred shadow in the corner of my eye and spotted a woman standing in the river near Dologau Bridge.

“I shouted out to her as it was a cold night and I thought she might be in trouble, but it wasn’t long before I realised she wasn’t a person at all.”

David’s eerie shot has since caused quite a stir in the area, with nearby residents speculating whether the apparition could’ve been the water spirit of the River Ystwyth from local Welsh legend, the ‘Three Sisters of Plynlimon’.

We’ve all heard of Scotland’s Loch Ness Monster and America’s Bigfoot, but this spooky sighting begs the question — has Wales discovered its own “monster or myth” legend?
