Nestled in the heart of Mid Wales, it’s a place where ornate ironwork and quirky architecture compete for your attention, and where one of the excitements might just be sampling a fountain of water that tastes like rusty nails (but hey, it’s good for you!).


Whether you're here to bask in the grandeur of its historic buildings or to explore its delightful quirks—like the most scenic railway station in Britain or the finest golf course you never knew you needed—Llandrindod Wells promises a day of unexpected pleasures and whimsical discoveries. So, grab your top hat, adjust your crinoline, and prepare for a splendidly eccentric adventure in a town that never met a Victorian ideal it didn’t like!



Morning:

Start your day at Llandrindod Wells' charming Boating Lake, a serene 14-acre expanse perfect for a leisurely morning. Admire the fearsome water dragon sculpture and enjoy a stroll around the lake or a relaxing boat ride. If you're feeling adventurous, why not hire a bike and explore the picturesque surroundings? Don’t miss the ancient Capel Maelog ruins nearby, a hidden gem tucked away among the trees.

Next, head to the National Cycle Museum housed in the striking Art Deco Automobile Palace. Even if cycling isn’t your passion, the museum’s diverse collection of bikes—from the quaint Hobby Horse to modern marvels—is sure to fascinate.


Lunch:

For a delightful lunch, make your way to a cozy café or bistro in the town centre. Savour a range of hearty, locally-sourced dishes and enjoy a relaxing break. The scattering of venues in the town offers a warm atmosphere and a variety of options to suit different tastes. 

Following lunch, why not stretch your legs through the high street and take in some of the offerings at the charming independent shops on Middleton Street, Perfect for a bit of last-minute browsing.


Afternoon:

After lunch, stroll over to the Radnorshire Museum, where you’ll be transported back in time with a rich array of Victorian memorabilia, local artefacts, and historical exhibits. This treasure trove of local history provides a vivid glimpse into the past of Llandrindod and the wider Radnorshire region.

Then, take a short walk to Rock Park and Spa. Wander through this delightful park, full of winding paths, lush greenery, and enchanting features like a collection of fairy doors, giant footprints, Lover’s Leap and the historic pump room. Here, you can sample the famed chalybeate spring water, though you might want to prepare yourself for its distinctive taste!

For dinner, head to one of Llandrindod Wells cosy inns, have a rest in the sunshine in the gardens of the Llanerch or people watch whilst you enjoy some great food in the Hampton. Wherever you choose you can be sure of a delicious meal in a welcoming setting.

After the excitement of the evening's entertainment, wind down with a tranquil stroll through the picturesque Temple Gardens.
